Home Improvement is perhaps one of the most iconic series from 'the past'. This was partly due to the brilliant performances of the Home Improvement cast including Tim, Jill, Al and of course neighbor Wilson.

Here we look back on the series, but we also share how the children in the series are doing now. Spoiler alert: quite a bit has changed…

Home Improvement

This American sitcom stars Tim Taylor (played by Tim Allen). Tim had his own handyman program calledTool Time, around which he of course always experienced plenty of things.

His entire family played a part in this: his wife Jill and three sons named Bradly, Randy and Mark.

In Tooltime Tim works together with Al and assistant Heidi, among others. This handyman program plays an important role in the series.

When Tim couldn't figure it out, he went to his neighbor Wilson, who always assisted him with wise advice. During these iconic conversations, only half of neighbor Wilson's head was visible.

The first episode of Home Improvement aired on17 september 1991and the last one came out at25 mei 1999. Eight seasons were made during this period.

After this, it was over for the actors, even though they were offered a serious amount of money to make another season. More about that in the 'Did you know...' further down this page.

  • Randy(Jonathan Taylor Thomas) left for Costa Rica in the series. The reason was that he wanted to focus on his studies in real life and this could not be combined with the series.

  • Jill(Patricia Richardson) was offered a whopping $25 million for another season, but she turned it down.
  • Tim Taylor(Tim Allen) was even offered $50 million for season 9, but he also declined.
  • The face ofneighbor Wilsonwas never fully visible. Until the last episode, where he came into full view.
  • Binford Tools, the sponsor of Tooltime did not exist at all, but was later used in ToyStory.
  • The original title of the series wouldHammer Timebut in the end they went with Home Improvement.

There was another 'reunion' in 2003, calledTim Allen Presents: A User’s Guide to Home Improvement. The cast looked back and shared their favorite clips, insider tips and personal experiences surrounding the series. The public also had the opportunity to ask questions.e

Many people grew up with the series and have fond memories of it. That's why we looked for the Home Improvement cast and investigated how they are doing now.

Timothy ‘Tim’ Taylor – Tim Allen

Tim Allen was born on June 13, 1953 and has had quite a career. In addition to being an actor in Home Improvement, he is also a comedian and voice-over. Below is an image of Tim Allen in the series.

Tim Allen has collaborated on several major productions. Consider, for example, ToyStory, where he did the voice of Buzz Lightyear. But he is also known for theSanta Clausmovies. He still performs as a comedian.

He also recently participated in 'AssemblyRequired', which contains the necessary references to Tooltime.

Tim also has two children from two marriages, Katherine and Elizabeth. Currently, he is married to Jane Hajduk since October 7, 2006.

In addition, Allen is a real car nut and even once participated in the24 hours of Daytona.

Jillian ‘Jill’ Taylor – Patricia Richardson

Patricia Richardson was born on February 23, 1951 and started out in musicals before landing one of the leading roles on Home Improvement. For her role in the series, she was nominated four times for an Emmy Award and twice for a Golden Globe.

After Home Improvement, Richardson has appeared in several TV series and films. This includes Cubby, A Christmas in Tennessee, Blonde, Double Trouble and The West Wing.

Wilson W. Wilson jr – Earl Hindman

Many people will remember the iconic neighbor Wilson, played by Earl Hindman. This actor already had quite a career before Home Improvement. He was born on October 20, 1942 and started acting in 1967.

At the end of 2003, in the year of the Home Improvement reunion, Earl Hindman died of lung cancer. He was 61 years old.

Below is the video of the only time Wilson was fully featured on Home Improvement.

Albert ‘Al’ Boreland – Richard Karn

Richard Karn was born on February 17, 1956 and he came into contact with acting in the 7th grade of primary school. He played in theaters in his youth and previously lived in England for six months.

After the series, Karn has appeared in several films and series. Consider, for example, Airbuddies, Snowbuddies, A Dauhter's Nightmare, Christmas Land, The Horse Dancer and many more.

Since 1985 he has been married to Tudi Roche and has a son Cooper (1992). His wife also had a few guest roles on Home Improvement. A report emerged in 2020 that Karn had died, but he confirmed on Twitter that this was not the case. He is also live on the record with good friend… Tim!

The kids from Home Improvement

The Taylor family not only consisted of Tim and Jill, but there were also three sons. These were Mark, Randy and Brad. Below we continue with the Taylors' kids.

Marcus ‘Mark’ Taylor – Taran Noah Smith

The actor, born on April 8, 1984, has Italian, Swedish, English and Irish blood. He was soon cast in Home Improvement when he was just 7 years old.

In total he can be seen in 203 episodes as the youngest of the silent and initially mother's boy. He turned into a rebellious teenager over the course of the series.

At the age of 16 he decided to quit acting. After he got married (2001) he started a vegan restaurant, but after his divorce in 2007 this even led to a lawsuit. In his spare time he now mainly enjoys motorcycling, sailing, paintballing and flying.

Randall William ‘Randy’ Taylor – Jonathan Taylor Thomas

Jonathan Taylor Thomas was born on September 8, 1981 in Pennsylvania. When he was 7 years old, he got his first modeling job and later also appeared in commercials for Kelloggs cereal, among others. As Randy, he played the prankster and clever bird of the Taylor family.

Until 2006, Jonathan Taylor Thomas was regularly seen on TV and in films and series, but then he moved on with his life. He played in: I'll Be Home for Christmas, Man of the House, Tom and Huck, Wild America, Common Ground, Walking Across Egypt and Speedway Junky.

He also provided the voice of Simba in The Lion King in 1994. He had his last role in 2015 in Last Man Standing, after which it has been suspiciously quiet around Jonathan.

Bradley Michael ‘Brad’ Taylor – Zachery Ty Bryan

His role in Home Improvement made Zachery Ty Brian famous to the general public, where he played the popular and athletic Brad. Brad often got into trouble by acting first and thinking later...

Zachery Ty Bryan was born on October 9, 1981 in Colorado where he started working on advertising brochures and TV commercials. One of his biggest hobbies was football, where he even got a place at theCalifornia South Olympic Development Team.

He has now appeared in several films and series, such as The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Sammed, Longshot, Rustin, The Rage: Carrie 2, First Kid and many more.

After his divorce in 2020 (after 14 years of marriage), things went quite wrong for Bryan. He was arrested in 2020 for violence against his girlfriend and again in 2023. All this in addition to darkshady financial affairs...and in the meantime keep making children!

So, now we're back to the Home Improvement cast. Of course you can still watch the great series!

Little boys grow up…

So we see that the little, cute boys from Home Improvement have now also grown up. In any case, we really enjoyed researching it, and we hope you were able to bring back some wonderful memories as well.
